How to make stuffing?

Stuffing preparation may vary depending on regional differences and personal preferences. The word “dolma“ is a very common term in Turkish cuisine and can be made with a variety of ingredients. Here is how to make “sarma dolma“, one of the most common ones.This recipe is a more elaborate version of stuffed stuffing.

Ingredients:

  • Grape leaves or cabbage leaves (for wrapping)
  • Ground meat or vegetables (for filling)
  • Rice (for filling)
  • Onion, garlic, pepper paste, spices (for filling)
  • Olive oil (for cooking)
  • Yogurt and lemon juice (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, washed rice, chopped onion, garlic, pepper paste, and spices.
  2. Prepare the leaves:
    • Boil grape leaves or cabbage leaves in hot water until they become soft. Then, rinse them with cold water and drain.
  3. Assemble the dolmas:
    • Place a small amount of the filling mixture onto the lower part of a leaf.
    • Roll the leaf into a cylinder shape, folding in the sides as you go. You should end up with a stuffed dolma.
  4. Arrange in a pot:
    • Arrange the stuffed dolmas in a large pot and drizzle olive oil over them.
  5. Cook:
    • Add enough water to cover the stuffed vegetables in the pot and boil. Then, cover the pot with low heat and let the stuffed vegetables cook for 30-40 minutes.
  6. Serving:
    • Once the dolmas are cooked, you can serve them with a mixture of yogurt and lemon juice drizzled on top.
