Acne occurs when the skin‘s sebaceous glands produce excessive sebum, dead skin cells accumulate, and as a result, pores become clogged. The main causes and treatment methods of acne are explained in detail below.

Causes of Acne

  1. Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, such as those occurring during puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and the use of birth control pills, can increase the production of androgens. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, leading to acne.
  2. Genetic Factors: If there is a history of in your family. May be more prone to developing acne due to genetic predisposition.
  3. Diet: Diets high in glycemic index foods (sugary and processed foods). Dairy products can trigger acne in some individuals.
  4. Stress: Stress can alter hormone levels, leading to increased oil production and development.
  5. Cosmetic Products: Oil-based cosmetics and makeup products can clog pores and contribute to acne formation.
  6. Environmental Factors: Dirt, dust, and pollution can clog pores and lead to acne.

Treatments for Acne

  1. Cleansing: Regularly clean your face to prevent clogged pores. Use gentle, cleansers to wash your face in the morning and at night.
  2. Moisturizing: Maintain the moisture balance of your skin with oil-free, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) moisturizers.
  3. Topical Treatments:
    • Benzoyl Peroxide: Kills bacteria and helps unclog pores.
    • Salicylic Acid: Removes dead skin cells and cleans pores.
    • Retinoids: Speed up cell turnover to prevent clogged pores.
    • Antibiotics: Reduce bacteria and inflammation.
  4. Diet and Nutrition: Avoid high glycemic index foods and dairy products. Opt for a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
  5. Stress Management: Implement stress management techniques such as yoga, meditation, and exercise to lower stress levels.
  6. Proper Cosmetic Use: Use non-comedogenic, oil-free cosmetic products. Keep your skin clean and hydrated while wearing makeup.
